a-typic - Modular room system
RARE Design/Ligne Roset
This model room presented at the Sleep event 2011 questions how hotel room design can develop within non-standard spaces through a standardized design. The project is conceived as an island with the central spine element, containing all facilities, distributing the various functions of the room while preserving the openness to provide a feeling of space in contrived dimensions. Produced in collaboration with Ligne Roset to cater for the needs of atypical hospitality projects, the novelty in our approach lies in the fact that this island is an assemblage of well crafted furniture elements, rather than a monolithic block. The modular organisation of hard and soft elements can be reconfigured according to diverse spatial configurations as they might come. The hotel room thus becomes a space where light-weight furniture modules merge into a coherent whole.
